Frequently Asked Questions
Hydrographics, also known as Water-Transfer Printing, is a very niche technique that involves imprinting various patterns & designs onto objects using a dissolvable film, that is then dipped into water.
Most hydro dipping projects take about 2–4 weeks to complete. That timeline covers prep, dipping, drying, curing, and any final touch-ups or inspections. More detailed designs, larger orders, or extra prep work can extend the turnaround time a bit.
With proper care, your hydrographic finish can last 5–15 years or more. To help protect the design, use gentle cleaning methods and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers.
Swirl dipping is a paint-based effect created by mixing colors in a container for a one-of-a-kind swirled look. Hydrographics, on the other hand, uses a printed film on water and a dipping process to transfer the design onto your 3D item. If you want a more detailed, high-definition pattern, hydrographics is the better match.
Hydro dipping uses a printed film and water to transfer a seamless design onto a 3D object, which works especially well on detailed or curved surfaces. Wrapping uses adhesive vinyl applied to the outside of an item, which is often better for flatter surfaces and simpler shapes. If you want a more detailed, molded-looking finish, hydro dipping is usually the stronger fit.
After an item is dipped, there is a set amount of time for the newly imprinted design to dry.
Once dried, a 2K Clear Coat is then applied onto the object for a nice clear, glossy shine, giving the newly imprinted design a nice pop!
You can hydro dip many solid 3D items, as long as they can be properly prepped for the process. If you're not sure whether your item is a good fit, reach out and we can help you figure it out.
